TANGAER PUPPIES

WATCH THE BIRDIE!!

Please do not be taken in by the chocolate box image of the breed as seen in the photos. Although wonderful,happy-go-lucky companion dogs, the petit is all hound and once on a scent can go deaf to your calls.

Prospective buyers of this breed MUST be made aware of their shortcomings. I adore the breed and have lived and been owned by them since 1985.They are not the breed for everyone!

DO NOT be taken in by the chocolate box expression, at least that's what everybody says. Me? I'm all for it!

Their coats are NOT maintenance free as I was initially led to believe. They do need quite a lot of time spent on grooming and special attention paid to ears.
If a dog possesses the correct coarse coat then maintenance can be kept to a minimum but even so grooming is a priority. Not only for the well being & comfort of the dog, but also to help keep down unwanted parasites. Quite honestly I find grooming extremely therapeutic!
But not everybody does. You must ask yourself are you prepared to put the time into grooming a dog before making the decision to get one.

They need lots of exercise, so the couch potato person is NOT the ideal owner!

All my puppy people are issued with diet and advice sheet.

I will always take back a dog I have bred, no matter what age, should the need arise and I do ask all my puppy buyers to let me know as soon as possible if they are experiencing any difficulties with their dog.

I organise puppy reunions every few years which are great fun.

Archie says "Why can't I get a tune out of this?"

No matter how beautiful the dog looks or how correct the construction may be, unless the temperament is A1, looks mean nothing!

You have to be a special kind of person to own a PBGV - patient, firm, active, slightly crazy and above all, possess a sense of humour!

A couple of puppies of mine over the years have been returned to me or had to be rehomed, mainly due to family circumstances or people just not being able to cope with a PBGV puppy (e.g. over active children winding the puppy up to such a pitch that puppy play-biting gets out of hand - very little parental control).

It is a worrying time when my puppies go to new homes as you can never be 100% certain of suitability - only time will tell.  I believe it is vital for breeders (also Stud Dog owners) to keep in contact with owners.  Not nagging them constantly, but making it clear that you are only at the end of a phone if help and/or advice is needed.

Owning a BGV can be a very rewarding past time!  Even though you may despair of them on occasions, I feel that the pluses out weigh the minuses!  They are capable of lifting you out of the depths of depression as you only need to look at that cheeky, devil-may-care, hairy faces and cannot help but smile!!
